Developing a Business name and the process to get started

Once you've decided on what your going to do, then it's "where do I go and what do I do to get started legally." First thing to do is establish a business name. Once you do, you check to see if that name is being used and go to your City Clerk's office, County Clerk, etc. From there, it's usually 10-20 to register a DBA, "Doing Business As". If the name is not being used in your county, you are free to fill out a form to establish the name as your business. Usually it is good for 5 years or so, depending on the state and county. From there, establish a checking or savings account. Most banks only require a DBA to open an account under that name. You will need to provide that information and your own identity as well. Many questions to ask is "how will you charge for your business"? will you accept credit cards, checks, use a pay pal account? There are many tools that can be used on your phone as well, especially smartphones where you can accept debit and credit cards. Once you've got your business name, your bank account established, you move on to marketing. How will you get your name out there? blog? website? there are so many free websites to make a simple, yet powerful webpage initially. What about business cards? networking? social media?
