Featured Work from Home Opportunity, Event Planning

Are you organized? do you like working with people and the fascinating industry of event planning? A challenging and fast paced job as an event planner may be the right career for you. It takes time, but you can build a business where people call you to plan birthday parties, weddings, showers, promotional events, and more. You have to be very detailed oriented and excited about décor, the planning process, and always be marketing your services. You can choose your specialty too. Maybe corporate planning is a good way to go, you can market yourself to businesses that host different events, Christmas parties, fundraisers, promotional events, and community events. Weddings are a big industry as well, and a great place, if you have the passion, to start your event planning business. Make sure you have the schedule that supports this career. One downside is most weekends, and evenings you are busy. If it's your plan to stay at home with your family, especially on weekends, this may not be the career for you.

Developing a Business name and the process to get started

Once you've decided on what your going to do, then it's "where do I go and what do I do to get started legally." First thing to do is establish a business name. Once you do, you check to see if that name is being used and go to your City Clerk's office, County Clerk, etc. From there, it's usually 10-20 to register a DBA, "Doing Business As". If the name is not being used in your county, you are free to fill out a form to establish the name as your business. Usually it is good for 5 years or so, depending on the state and county. From there, establish a checking or savings account. Most banks only require a DBA to open an account under that name. You will need to provide that information and your own identity as well. Many questions to ask is "how will you charge for your business"? will you accept credit cards, checks, use a pay pal account? There are many tools that can be used on your phone as well, especially smartphones where you can accept debit and credit cards. Once you've got your business name, your bank account established, you move on to marketing. How will you get your name out there? blog? website? there are so many free websites to make a simple, yet powerful webpage initially. What about business cards? networking? social media? The more you do this, the more successful your business will become. What are some other marketing strategies? Please comment if you have some unique ways to get your business out there!

Internet Work from Home

Today there are a lot of things you can do on the internet to make some extra money. Should you sell things on Etsy? Ebay? So many choices. You can also go to alibaba.com and purchase quantities of an item for a very low cost, then sell on internet, or maybe take on the road to local shows, craft shows, etc. Establishing an ebay business can be lucrative, but there area fee's involved. You can advertise for free on Craigslist's but of course there are safety measures involved with using that site. Each has it's pro's on cons. What other internet jobs are there? There are many companies looking for people to review or write for them. Technorati is one of them. You can bid on jobs to review or write on different subject matter. Feel free to comment with other work from home opportunities.

Mobile Hair and Make Up Artist

Do you have your cosmetology license or are just really good at hair and make up? Advertise your services for mobile hair and make up on Craiglist, facebook, create a facebook page, make a free website, network with wedding vendors, and go to the site of the Brides/Bridesmaids. You will need to draw up a liability waiver, for skin conditions or allergic reactions to make up, will need proper brushes, disposable "supplies", and need to invest in good make ups. Charging a fee per person will be up to you, but many hair salons because of overhead, charge quite a bit of money and it has to be scheduled in the salon. Many bridal parties get ready at hotels. It's a fun occupation, you can do your marketing from home and make a nice income from making people pretty, at their convenience.

Sales, a world of opportunities

Do you already work for someone and in sales? How many of you actually sell something and wonder where the product came from? One of the opportunities out there is to find a niche product, maybe in your area of expertise, in my case, I am in the Automotive Industry. I go right to the source, who makes it, creates it, etc. Many successful distributors started with ONE product they took to businesses to sell. There is a cost and commission involved, and that is how everyone makes a profit. Maybe you like a specific industry, like Weddings for example, get a product and market it to people who sell it, like florists, dress shops, craft stores, etc. With the internet these days it's very easy to find a "wholesaler". My next subject on wholesaling is important. Please read. Just because someone calls themselves a "wholesaler" does NOT mean they are.....in fact that wholesaler is usually purchasing their goods from someone else, marking up the product to you, and by the time you get it to the place of business your selling to, it's way to expensive. True wholesale cost is an interesting subject we will cover and ways to find true sources.

what should I do?

One thing that makes me good at starting my own business and working for myself, is that I think there are so many things I want to do, and it's very hard for me to stick to ONE thing. If you know me, you'd probably know that I do too many things, sometimes becoming a jack of all trades, and master of nothing. However, along the road I decided I needed to focus on my strengths, focus on what I'm good at, and opportunities that I could actually realize and not just conceptualize what I think "could happen"! So the first thing to do, is realize what strengths you have, what you already have as far as necessary tools. For example, if you want to be a medical transcriptionist, do you have the necessary equipment? do you have a computer, printer, dictation devices, good wpm? If you excel at typing and dictation, maybe your an admin person already, then you could segue right into a position like that. Evaluate what equipment you'll need and assess the costs to acquire. What strengths do you have? Is there some experience you bring to the table?

Introduction

I am a Mother of 3, and decided to start this blog because in my last 20 years I have started many different businesses and hope I can help someone along the way in pursuit of doing the same thing. I hope there will be open discussions, posting of different opportunities, and maybe help provide insight to all the opportunities out there for people who have the desire to work for themselves and from their home office. First I will start by saying, I do work from home. I run a company that finds independent sales people to market and sell from Automotive products that you would find in Auto Dealerships. I also event plan, and write for a few blogs. I have never been satisfied working for "the man" as we refer to it so often. I like to make my own schedule, and my own income. I work hard, but I like the variety of what I do. I am also a Mom to a recently turned 1 year old, a 3 year old, and a near 14 year old. Life is never dull and I'm ALWAYS very busy. If you'd like to subscribe, send us your email, and we will send you work from home opportunities. Let's get started!
